Ingredients
  

For the Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Make sure butter is melted before adding.
For the Apple Filling
  • 2.5 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith are recommended for tartness.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar or brown sugar Adjust based on desired sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch or all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and lightly spray an 8 or 9 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. For the crumble topping, in a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon. Whisk to combine.
  3. Add the melted butter and stir until crumbly.
  4. For the filling, in a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, corn starch or flour, and ground cinnamon. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the top of the apple filling.
Baking
  1. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until bubbling and golden brown on top.
  2. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
