These homemade granola bars with oats are a healthy and customizable snack that you can make quickly, avoiding all the additives found in store-bought options.

Ingredients
  

Base Ingredients
  • 2 cups rolled oats Use old-fashioned oats for the best texture.
  • 1/3 cup honey Can substitute with maple syrup.
  • 1/4 cup nut butter Peanut, almond, or sunflower seed butter.
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts Choose your favorite, such as almonds or walnuts.
  • 1/4 cup dried fruit Cranberries, raisins, cherries, or any dried fruit works.
  • 1 pinch salt Essential for flavor.
  • 1 tsp vanilla Highly recommended for added flavor.
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips Optional, adds sweetness and flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, chopped nuts, and dried fruit.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the nut butter and honey together for about 30 seconds until easily mixable.
  3. Pour the nut butter and honey mixture over the dry ingredients and stir until well combined.
  4. Add in the pinch of salt and vanilla and stir to mix in evenly.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then gently fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a lined baking pan, pressing it down firmly and evenly.
  7. Refrigerate for at least one hour before slicing into bars.

Notes

Wrap each bar in parchment or wax paper to prevent them from sticking together. Store in a tight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
