- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with the sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

- In another bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped Reese's.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting
- For the frosting, beat together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and peanut butter until smooth.
- Add heavy cream or milk until you reach the desired consistency.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one layer, add the second layer, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Top with additional chopped Reese's if desired.
Notes
This cake can be made in various sizes; just adjust the bake time accordingly. Ensure the cake is cooled completely before frosting to prevent melting.
