Ingredients
  

For the Sloppy Joe filling
  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or lentils.
  • 1 small onion, chopped Adjust according to preference.
  • 1 cup tomato sauce Can also use ketchup.
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • optional chili powder or hot sauce For a spicy kick.
  • 4 buns soft sandwich buns Toast for extra flavor if preferred.

Preparation
  1. In a skillet, brown the ground beef with chopped onion over medium heat.
  2. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer the mixture until thick but not dry, stirring occasionally.
  5. If desired, add chili powder or hot sauce for spice.
  6. Serve the meat mixture on toasted buns.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge or frozen for later use. Let kids participate in making their own sandwiches for added fun.
